Headless CMS Solutions Architect - Remote Contract

This is a remote position.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Headless CMS Solutions Architect to lead client discovery, technology evaluation, solution architecture, and implementation planning for modern digital content platforms.

This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who can bridge business requirements, content strategy, cloud architecture, systems integration, and development.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with multiple headless CMS platforms, particularly:

•Storyblok

•Sanity

•Contentful

•Strapi

The successful candidate must also be comfortable designing solutions within an Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead client discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews.
• Gather and document business, editorial, technical, integration, security, and content requirements.
• Evaluate headless CMS platforms and recommend the best solution based on client needs.
• Develop current-state and future-state solution architectures.
• Design scalable content models, schemas, reusable components, taxonomies, and metadata.
• Define editorial workflows, approvals, permissions, localization, and publishing processes.
• Design integrations between the CMS and enterprise systems.
• Collaborate with front-end, cloud, DevOps, security, UX, and development teams.
• Develop CMS migration strategies from legacy platforms such as Drupal, WordPress, Sitecore, or custom systems.
• Design architectures supporting multilingual content, accessibility, SEO, search, and content governance.
• Produce architecture diagrams, technology recommendations, implementation roadmaps, and technical documentation.
• Present recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Headless CMS Experience

Candidates should have strong experience with multiple headless CMS platforms and be capable of objectively evaluating their strengths and limitations.

Experience should include several of the following:

Storyblok

Visual Editor, components, workflows, localization, roles and permissions, Content Delivery API, and Management API.

Sanity

Sanity Studio, structured content, schemas, GROQ, Content Lake, custom editorial experiences, and integrations.

Contentful

Content models, localization, environments, permissions, workflows, Content Delivery API, and Content Management API.

Strapi

Content Type Builder, components, Dynamic Zones, REST and GraphQL APIs, permissions, plugins, and cloud or self-hosted deployments.

Candidates do not need equal expertise in all four platforms, but strong experience with at least two and familiarity with all four is preferred.

AWS & Cloud Architecture

The client environment will use Amazon Web Services.

The candidate should understand how headless CMS platforms integrate with AWS-based applications and infrastructure.

The successful candidate does not need to be the primary AWS infrastructure engineer but must understand AWS well enough to design solutions, make architectural recommendations, and collaborate effectively with cloud and DevOps teams.

Technical Experience

Strong experience with:

• Headless and composable CMS architecture

•Structured content and content modeling

•REST APIs

•GraphQL

•Webhooks and API integrations

•JavaScript and/or TypeScript

• Modern front-end frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue, or Nuxt

•Enterprise systems integration

•CMS migration

•Content governance

•Multilingual and localized content

• Role-based permissions and editorial workflows

•Technical SEO

•Accessibility and modern web standards

Experience with enterprise search, Digital Asset Management, CRM, LMS, marketing automation, analytics, or identity platforms is considered an asset.

Client Discovery & Consulting

This role requires strong consulting and communication skills.

The candidate must be comfortable:

•Leading discovery workshops.

• Working with executives, business stakeholders, content teams, IT departments, and developers.
• Translating business requirements into technical architecture.

•Comparing technologies objectively.

• Identifying technical risks and dependencies.
• Challenging requirements when a simpler or more scalable solution is appropriate.
• Presenting and defending architectural recommendations.

Required Qualifications

• Significant professional experience with headless CMS platforms.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least two of Storyblok, Sanity, Contentful, or Strapi.
• Experience leading CMS or digital-platform discovery.
• Experience recommending and designing enterprise CMS solutions.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-based architecture.
• Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, structured content, and composable architecture.
• Experience producing architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following is an asset:

•AWS Solutions Architect certification

• Storyblok, Contentful, Sanity, or Strapi certifications

•Next.js / React

•Node.js

•Terraform or Infrastructure as Code

•CI/CD and DevOps

•AWS OpenSearch or enterprise search

• Digital Asset Management platforms such as Bynder

•CRM or marketing automation systems
